No one expects to get a chicken. Let alone two of them! But here they are, soon to be winging their way to Papua New Guinea. That’s where they’ll provide families with an income and the ability to start breeding more chickens – which makes this gift even better. It’s only a little but it will change a lot.
In Papua New Guinea, Oxfam and our partner Community Development Agency are equipping people with the tools to support themselves and their families.
In Simbu Province, we give technical advice for rearing chickens. Through this support, communities are able to raise healthy chickens that provide eggs, manure and offspring to continue benefiting the community. This in turn means families are able to earn money to pay for school fees, healthcare and other essentials.
Better still, communities are building a more peaceful future in areas that are traditionally beset by tribal conflicts and violence.
